Monitoring Made Easy
gpCollect is a cross-platform mobile mapping solution to conduct a variety of monitoring tasks. Spatial data is collected either through GPS or by digitizing and attributes can be entered via customized input masks.
How it works
The main purpose of gpCollect is to acquire and work with data as easily as possible.
The app works offline and data is always first saved to the local device. Later, the entire database can be synchronized with a remote database on a server.
A few simple steps make up a typical workflow:
- acquiring data
- editing data
- saving data locally
- pushing data to a server
- analyzing and visualizing data in a web-based dashboard
gpCollect connects easily to a smartphone's GPS and lets you acquire points, lines, and even polygons. Data can be collected via GPS or you can manually digitize datasets or even use a hybrid approach. It is not uncommon that a dataset is acquired using GPS but then adjusted using the provided digitizing tools.
One of the key components of gpCollect is the map on which any dataset can be displayed. Acquisition can be further enhanced by loading different kinds of basemaps or reference data. Upon installing the app you can download data packages, which we can specifically prepare for your projects.
After having acquired a position you can:
- edit the position manually
- enter attributes for that position
Straightforward tools allow you to adjust a position or digitize it from scratch. This is especially helpful when the device cannot acquire a strong signal or when the acquired data is not accurate enough.
Generally, when you acquire a position you would also like to enter attributes pertaining to that position. The input masks are prepared by us. You let us know what you want to collect and we will prepare the mask and database for you. A variety of attribute data can be acquired, such as:
- Text (one-line or multiple-line)
- Numeric (integer or decimal)
- Radio buttons
Error checking can be added to ensure that data is submitted correctly. You can define patterns and rules, and we'll implement them for you.
Save and Push
gpCollect uses a local database on the device to save acquired positions. This does not only minimize requests to a server but it also ensures that the app works offline.
Because data collection is often conducted in areas with slow to no connectivity gpCollect is designed to entirely work offline without losing any of its key components and functionalities.
The following features, for examples, are guaranteed to work anywhere, anytime, offline or online:
- acquiring data through GPS
- saving and editing
- displaying interactive basemaps and reference data
When the user connects to the internet the entire database can be pushed to a remote server. Because the database is sent as a whole this means that only one request is made, instead of a request for each individual dataset, which would be time-consuming and error-prone.
Replication schemes ensure that no data is collected twice or overridden at any point.
We host your database on our servers, taking care of security and stability.
Since multiple users can work on the same project at any time, other users can pull updates from the database as soon as they are available.
Points, Lines, Polygons
We love geospatial data and we do not discriminate. gpCollect allows the collection of points, lines, and polygons. Whether you are acquiring trees, building footprints or streets, gpCollect supports the geometry your project requires.
We generate tilesets for you, which can be used as offline basemaps. Choose one of our predefined styles, or let us know what you need. Our cartography team specializes in making appealing maps.
We have access to a vast pool of geospatial data. The reference data you need to facilitate acquisition in your region might be sitting in one of our databases already. Ask us for specifics.
No user limit
We know monitoring projects can require the participation of a large number of people. gpCollect does not limit the number of users who can collect data or access the database.
We allow the creation of groups so you can manage different kinds of users (e.g., viewer, editor, admin). This lets you control access to certain datasets.
